B1G Power Rankings – Dec. 4, 2023

1. Wisconsin

The Badgers reclaim this week’s top spot after a dominant performance against Ohio State in Madison. Wisconsin finally looked like the team that started the season 9-1 with gutsy team play in the first game and an avalanche of goals in the second game.

2. Michigan State

Splitting the series with Minnesota two weeks ago and being idle this weekend cost the Spartans their #1 spot, but they are still in first place in the standings.

3. Minnesota

Minnesota and Penn State are practically interchangeable after splitting this weekend’s series and both scoring seven goals each, but the Gophers get the nod due to their success earlier in the season when the Nittany Lions were still figuring things out.

4. Penn State

Read above. Penn State feels like a team that’s right on the cusp of a hot streak where they look unbeatable. We shall see.

5. Notre Dame

After a blowout loss to Boston College, the Irish rebounded with a good series against Michigan, though they could only secure one win. Notre Dame will not be able to compete with elite talent this year, but they seem to improve every week. They’ll definitely be a team to watch after the holiday break.

6. Michigan

The Wolverines have slowly worked their way down our rankings, and have followed a similar trajectory in the national rankings. They have so much potential and talent, but they can’t seem to put it all together for more than one game at a time to gain any momentum.

7. Ohio State

The Buckeyes actually seemed like the better team in the first game this weekend. They controlled play for most of the game, but couldn’t put the puck in the net. Game Two was a different story entirely. They were outmatched and looked every bit the part. They could only muster one goal, while giving up nine, this weekend.
