This weekend marks the last conference series of the year for the Big Ten. After Saturday, the teams will take a much deserved break before resuming after Christmas or, in Michigan’s case, on January 12. So let’s enjoy one last action-packed weekend before winding down for the holidays.

A perfect game. A hat trick. A hole-in-one. Sports are filled with elusive benchmarks that the greats chase. Well, pencil in Perfect Picks on my list of achievements. OK, so maybe it’s not as impressive as the other accomplishments, but going 6-0, especially with only conference games, is… well, perfect.

Minnesota at Ohio State

The Gophers stay on the road this weekend with a favorable matchup against the Buckeyes. Minnesota seems to be the antithesis of Ohio State – they defend well in front of the net and can score without much thought. Their downfall is a lack of consistency, though. If they remain focused, this will be a nice springboard into the holiday break. Prediction: Minnesota 2-0

Notre Dame at Michigan State

If you can only watch one series this weekend, make it this one. The Irish face a tough test against the top team in the conference, but are likely relishing the opportunity to prove themselves as a contender. They’ve improved steadily each week, but haven’t quite turned the corner yet. The Spartans, meanwhile, were idle last week and are ready to continue their winning ways. Expect a fast-paced, high-scoring game and those usually favor Michigan State, but too close to call a sweep. Prediction: Split 1-1

Penn State at Wisconsin

I think I know what Wisconsin is, but Penn State is still a mystery. The Nittany Lions don’t stand out positively or negatively on the stat sheet or in the games so it’s hard to tell what kind of performance you’ll get from them. The Badgers, conversely, are just consistently good. They score with the best of them and defend like every game is of overtime of the national championship. Since Wisconsin is home, I’ll pick them, but I’m not overly confident. Prediction: Wisconsin 2-0
